Reva Avon Thorpe, 91, passed peacefully from this life on April 13, 2024 at her home in Canon City, CO surrounded by family. Reva was born to Roy and Fern Swearingen in Nebraska on August 16, 1932, the youngest of six children.
After high school graduation, she married Neil Thorpe in 1952 and then moved to California where her husband was stationed with the United States Navy. Neil was sent to Korea in 1953, so Reva returned to Nebraska where their first child was born.
Climax Mine Employment brought the expanding family to Colorado where they first lived in Climax, then Leadville, Buena Vista and finally Salida. Three more children were born during this time. Reva was a housewife, tending to her family. During this period, she was also very active in the Rebekah Lodge. Retiring in 1992, Neil and Reva relocated to Canon City to reside at the Royal Gorge Manor, the only sky scraper in the city where they spent their final years.
Reva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, all of her siblings, son, Michael Steven; daughter-in-law, Patsy; grandson, Joshua Foster; and granddaughter, Jaime Thorpe. She is survived by her children, Joanna (Bob), John and Sharon; as well as 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Wilson Memorial Chapel: 1449 S. 9th St. Canon City, CO.
