Alayne Leahy Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Alayne Ann Leahy. Alayne died of heart failure due to complications of lung cancer surgery and chemotherapy. She face her illness head on with courage and determination, never losing hope, and succeeded to live a fulfilling life for 44 months after surgery. Alayne was born in San Jose, California on January 25, 1957, to Walter H. Skala and Myrna A. Krueger, who along with her brother Brad Lee Skala, are deceased. Surviving her are her husband of 34 years, Fred Adamic Jr. and his extended family including brother-in-law David (Marion) Adamic and the widows of two deceased brothers-in-law Stephen (Wanda) and Stanley (Lela). In California, she leaves many old friends among classmates, students and coworkers who will remember her fondly for her sense of humor. Alayne grew up in the Bay area, graduating from Los Gatos High School in 1975. She graduated from De Anza Junior College and Nore Dame De Namur University. She obtained her teaching credential from the University of San Francisco. Alayne spent the majority of her career working in the tech industry for Addington Labs, Searle Ultrasound, Spectra Physics, Qume and Sensym. Beginning in 2005, she taught 5th grade at St. Cyprian’s Catholic School in Sunnyvale, then wishing to live near the beach where summer vacation time was once spent, moved to Aptos and taught math and science at Rollings Hills Middle School in Watsonville for 10 years before retiring in 2017 due to her declining health. In her working and teaching careers, she found great satisfaction in mentoring others. In 2018, she moved from California to Colorado to be near Fred’s family, living in Monument for five years and Cañon City for the last 2.

Family and friends will honor her life at a potluck gathering on December 21, 2024, at 11:30 AM at the Fourmile Community Club in Cañon City.
