Alethea Valdez Obituary

Alethea Marie Valdez, affectionately known to many as "Snooks," passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Canon City, Colorado, at the age of 80. Born on September 27, 1945, in Crosby, Minnesota, to Arthur and Phyllis James. Alethea's life was one marked by steadfast devotion, tireless work, and a heart that seemed to have endless room for others.

Alethea was the wife of Don Valdez, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership, love, and laughter since January 8, 1966. Together, they built a family rooted in compassion and resilience. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Kimberly (Jimmy) Fazzino and Kristie (Kelly) Black, both of whom carry forward her generous spirit and unshakable strength. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Raquel Fazzino, Trey (Montana)Black, Teagan Black; great-grandson, Tucker Robinson; sister, Valerie James; in-laws, Janice James, Dorothy Montoya, Flo Valdez, Ruth Gallagos, Mable (Jesus) Guerrero, Juanita (Donald) Gill, Andrew Valdez, Edward Valdez and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Diane Richardt, Rodney James; in-laws, Telesforo, Gertrude Valdez; and her granddaughter, Taryn Black.

Those who knew Alethea, knew her as someone who could never sit idle. She believed in the value of hard work and found deep fulfillment in caring for others. She was the caretaker of her family in every sense of the word-someone who could be counted on no matter the circumstance.

To her family, Alethea was more than a wife, mother, and

friend-she was the heart of the home, the person who kept everything moving with love and determination. Her hands and heart were rarely still, always tending to someone's needs, always making sure the job was done right. Her family and those fortunate enough to be part of her life will remember her for that unmatched dependability and her deep, nurturing spirit.

Her presence had a way of bringing comfort and calm, her drive to help others inspiring everyone around her. She never shied away from a task, always seeing it through until the job was done.

Though her passing leaves a deep void, the legacy she leaves behind-of love, strength, and unwavering generosity-will continue to guide all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Alethea Marie "Snooks" Valdez will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends who were blessed to have been a part of her extraordinary life.

Services will be held on February 7, 12p.m. at Wilson Memorial Chapel: 1449 S. 9th St. Canon City, CO.
