Alfred Trogden Obituary

Alfred Lee Trogden, born on July 28, 1940, in Rockvale, Colorado, peacefully passed away on April 29, 2024, in Florence, Colorado.

Alfred, affectionately known as Butch, led a full and vibrant life. Oh boy, did Butch ever have the hobbies; trapping, hunting/fishing, camping, raising farm animals, scrapping, oil painting, reading, coin collecting, model trains (collecting different train scales, constructing towns, mountains, and everything in between), collecting old model cars, woodworking, raising exotic birds, gardening, arrowhead collecting, rock hounding, cooking, watching cooking shows and reading numerous recipe books looking for his next favorite recipe, watching old western moves such as Gun Smoke, Virginian, Wagan Train, and John Wayne movies, sitcoms such as Andy Griffith, Leave it to Beaver, Mash, Little House on the Prairie, and the Waltons, and making just about anything from whatever he had available, he didn’t waist a thing!

Butch worked at the former Domtar Gypson wallboard Plant in Florence, CO for 23 years, several of which he worked as a foreman prior to its closing in 1990.  He and Elynda then moved to Sweetwater, Tx where Butch hoped to continue working for Domtar in Sweetwater until his retirement but to only to be laid off a short three months later. Butch was a resourceful man with so many talents and trades. Anyone who knew Butch knew he was a hardworking man who never quit. Butch was always one to hold two or three side jobs in addition to his full-time job at Domtar. Butch owned and operated two businesses; Eager Beaver Firewood where he spent several years cutting and selling firewood and Trogden Inc., where he and Elynda owned and maintained several rental properties along with the 24-hr. security service provided for the vacant Domtar plant for 12 ½ years. Butch also worked for the Pipeline in Buena Vista, the uranium mine in Tallahassee, coal mines in the south field, building the Highline (the large electric towers from Penrose to Poncho springs), Bunker Hill Smelter in Idaho stacking bars of lead and skimming zinc from 250-ton kettles, he would buy and sell, junk and scrap, and in his younger years, he bucked hay for Lobacks in Florence and worked at Eckers Rock Shop breaking rock samples for Boy Scouts.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elynda Trogden, his children Brian (Kathy) Trogden and Pam (Mike) Bufmack, as well as his grandchildren: Brandon (Brittany) Trogden, Krista (Tyler) Mattson, Bryce (Mikayla) Bufmack, Lindsay (Chase) Bufmack; Great Grandchildren: Bella Trogden, Braedon Trogden (Brandon), Channing White (Krista), Maddyson Bufmack (Bryce). He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Pauline Trogden, his siblings: Delbert and Loyd Trogden and daughter: Darla Trogden.
