Allen Carl Kananen passed away peacefully at his home on October 22nd, 2025 in Cañon City, Colorado. Allen was born on June 2nd, 1942 to Wilbert C. Kananen and Sylvia I. Kivela in Dearborn, Wayne County, Michigan. He graduated Negaunee High School in 1960 and attended Michigan State University. Allen was an avid outdoorsman with a love for exploring remote locations many people would not dare to go to. Many of his hobbies incorporated his adventurous spirit as an excellent bush camper, hunter, competitive marksman, and fisherman. He is proceeded in death by his wife Donna J. (Crnchick) Kananen, his elder sister Leona J. Kananen, his two daughters Sherry J. Kananen and Terri L. (Agan) Eide. He is survived by his younger sister Melanie (Kananen) Woodworth, son Troy A. Kananen, granddaughter Kathryn E. Kananen, and niece Kristin (Woodworth) McKee.

Allen was extremely proud of his time spent as a cattle breeder using his knowledge of genetics to aid in the breeding of show stock. He would often tell stories of his time as a meat inspector and hunting up in the deer camps in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In 2006 he became a shooting coach and taught his granddaughter to shoot where to duo would go on to win several national and state competitions together. Often, he would take his family camping and backpacking where he continued his legacy of living in outdoors. Allen was extremely influential on the lives of his granddaughter and will be extremely missed. His family will be holding a private ceremony to spread his ashes up in some of his favorite locations from his childhood respecting Allen’s last wishes for the family to go on a camping trip to scatter them.
