Alva “Don” Jarrett passed peacefully at home into the arms of Jesus on Wed April 23, 2025 after a long-fought battle with COPD. He was born to George D and Irene E Jarrett on Dec 9, 1942. He married Patricia Donahue on Jan 25, 1964. They had three children, David Jarrett and twins, Todd and Don Jarrett. They were married 43 years until Patricia passed in 2006.
He met Barbara Opstedahl Cox in 2007, and they were married Dec 5, 2008 in Loveland, CO at Resurrection Fellowship Church. He moved to Canon City, CO and they have made their home there ever since.
Don served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Arlington Heights, IL and Gelnhausen, Germany. After returning home, he went on to be employed by IBM 40 yrs. He loved fly fishing (tied flies and built rods), hunting, and wildlife and nature photography. Don loved Jesus, the Bible, his Christian brothers and sisters, everyone he met and the Royal Gorge Vineyard Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Todd (Melisa) and Don; stepson, Scott Opstedahl; grandchildren, Andrew, Allysia Mia, Zachary (Evey), Nicholas, David (Ashley), Alex, Christopher, and Josie; and great-grandchildren, Autumn and Alayna; as well as David and Joyce Greenhood who he considered family. Don was preceded in death by his son, David Jarrett; grandson, Anthony; and step-son, Bryan Opstedahl.
A celebration of Don’s life will be at 11 a.m on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Royal Gorge Vineyard Church Canon City, CO. Interment to follow at the Imperial Memorial Gardens in Pueblo.
If you would like to wear camouflage, please do it! It would be very acceptable at this service. Don loved it and wore it every day.
