Vera Shaffer was born Anna Vera Santarelli on July 20, 1928 to Cesaria and Antonio Santarelli originally from Taranta Italy. She is a Canon City native and graduated from Canon City High School in 1947. Following graduation, she attended business school and was employed by the Fremont County Clerk and Recorder until 1957. She married John Shaffer on April 27, 1957 and raised her five children Joe (Daria) Anne (Alex Fischer), Mary, Carolyn and Chris Timpano (Pete) in Canon City. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic church. Vera loved to read, embroider and cook. She had a passion for WWII history and vivid memories and detailed stories related to her life during those years. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents, nine siblings; Enrico, Irene Larkin, Albert, John, Gal Starika, Rose Murray, Nick, Dorothy and Ruby Borzymowski and multiple in-laws, nieces and nephews. Vera is survived by her five children and two grandchildren (Megan and Jill).
