Audrey Surface

Audrey Adaline Surface passed away on January 25, 2026. She was born on May 21, 1930, near Peterson, Minnesota to Edward and Alice Hanson (Tungland). She was raised on the family farm and was the youngest of three daughters, Gen (Heathcote) and Edie (Hegland). Audrey graduated from Peterson High School. She then went on to graduate from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with a teaching certificate. She taught in several schools in Minnesota before moving to Colorado to teach at Widefield School.

She met Lt. Vaughn Surface on a blind date, fell in love, and planned a wedding at her home church in Minnesota. They were married on April 16, 1960, which began 65+ years of wonderful marriage. They had four great children, Nancy Noble (Scott), Kristine Pierce (Calvin), Thomas Surface (Melissa), and Eric Surface (Liz); eight grandchildren, Hannah Noble, Joshua and Jacob Pierce, McKenzie, Jaden, and Zach Surface, and Lucas Gerlock (Logan) and Kelly Michel (Bert) and numerous great-grandchildren, (Amaya, Jerimiah, and Mariah Michel, Citrina, Everett, Beatrice, and Daxton Gerlock).

Audrey is survived by her loving husband, all four of her children and their families, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a life-long and strong believer in Jesus Christ and happily served in many various roles in different churches, the last of which was the Florence Methodist Church. She will be fondly remembered for all the love and care she brought into the lives of all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 6th, 2026, at the Florence Methodist Church, 1032 E. Main St, Florence, Colorado.
