Bertie Norris Obituary

Bertie Irene Norris, affectionately known as Irene, was born on October 4, 1936, in Denver, Colorado. She passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024, in Canon City, Colorado. Irene lived a life rich with love and laughter that touched everyone she met.

A devoted mother to her children, Randy Norris and Pamela Richards, Irene found immense joy in her family. Her pride extended to her grandchildren, Justin Richards and Jenni Richards; and great-granddaughters, Natalie, Isabella, and Delaney Norris; Emersyn and Brynn Leigh Rose Richards. Each of them held a special place in her heart. Alongside them was Lucy, her beloved furry companion who brought comfort during both joyful times and moments of solitude.

Throughout her life in Canon City—a community she cherished—Irene cultivated deep friendships that became the cornerstone of her happiness.  She had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people; it seemed there wasn’t anyone who could resist the warmth of her spirit or the kindness radiating from within. Saturday nights were particularly special for Irene as they marked dinner outings with a close-knit group of widow friends —a tradition she looked forward to each week. An avid crafter and dancer during better days, Irene poured creativity into everything she did while sharing those passions with others around her. Her home was always kept pristene with every doily and piece of furniture in its place.. Irene loved her beautifully landscaped yard, and was often outside preening her pretty flowers. A great southern cook just like her Mama. Irene loved to fix a fancy table, with her individual salt and pepper shakers at each place. After her fall, her life drastically changed, and she could no longer do those things. It was her friends and family, that kept her going. Her home was often filled with laughter, as friends gathered together to celebrate life's simple pleasures.

She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Irene’s funeral will be held at Holt Family Funeral Home located at 806 Macon Ave., Canon City CO 81212 on January 10th, 2025 at 2:00 P.M

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society of Fremont County at 110 Rhodes Ave., Cañon City CO 81212—a cause close to Irene's heart given its remarkable commitment boasting a perfect adoption rate for its furry inhabitants. As we remember Bertie Irene Norris today—her infectious smile still lighting up our hearts—we are reminded that true legacy lies not just in how long we live, but how deeply we touch the lives around us, through love and friendship.
