Bradley Nordyke Obituary

Bradley Wayne Nordyke was born on 3/13/1970 and died on 5/15/2023. Born in Lamar, Colorado, he died at home in Canon City Colorado with his family at his side. Brad suffered for one and a half years from cancer.

Brad was a loving husband, son, stepfather, brother, and friend.  He and Ellen Holbert were married on 06/06/1998 in Holly, Colorado. He loved his two stepchildren as his own, Sylvia Rhodes living in Florence, Colorado, and Joey Venegas of Canon City, Colorado. He treasured the time he spent playing with his grandchildren, Jayden Rhodes, Olivia Rhodes, Damian Venegas, Jaxson Venegas; along with their two Godchildren Ashley Hasty and Amanda Jones, and children.

Brad enjoyed several years driving the school bus for Canon City, Florence, and Penrose, traveling to games and other school activities. He also delivered propane to many customers including in the mountains. He worked for several summers at WAO rafting driving to and from the Arkansas River with rafts and families and individuals to raft. He delivered lumber to many customers and many places.

Brad has always been a die-hard Steelers fan along with fishing, hunting, motorcycles, and having bar-be-cues. In his younger years, he was in square dancing with the late instructor Eulamae Hart and Trudy and Tom Harmon enjoyed their dancing partner Danielle Cook. Brad enjoyed going to Pueblo State Fair and dancing in the bandstand shelter for the Clog and Blue Light specials.

Brad had a BIG heart and loved helping people, his close friends, and classmates in Lamar Mark Roberts and Amy Rosencrants, and Holly classmate Boris Hughes. While in Holly he served the Volunteer Fire Department and was an EMT volunteer. He worked for the Town of Holly and Holly Dump. They moved to Canon City where he met Charles (Chuck) Troutman, Tony and Kathy Keenan, Howard Houghton lll, Jeremy White, and Charles (Doc) Dison and Blizzard his long horn steer which he rode at the rodeos and around Royal Gorge at times.

Survivors include his loving wife of the home Ellen; Sylvia; Joey; & grandkids; mother Judy Nordyke; sisters, Brandy and Paul, Dusty and Shelby; brother Burt and Carmelita, Russ and Cassandra; nephew Treg, Summer, Cody and Harlon; Father Bill Nordyke; Karen, step sister Krystal Campbell, and boys; half-sister Jamie and Austin Peck; step brother Travis Campbell; Aunt Stella Bates, Aunt Allie Mathis, Aunt Betty Pollart; mother-law Gloria Holbert; sisters and brother -in-laws, Jessie and Dean Simmons, Lynn and Larry Simon, Donato Holbert and Maria Casanova, Tina Holbert, Curtis and Teresa Holbert; Uncle  Rolla and Aunt Linda Holbert.   

Brad is preceded in death by his brother Shane Nordyke (2015); Grandpa Ernest Mathis (1997); grandma Luella (Speer) Mathis (2019); great granddad John Speer (1977); great grandma Alice Speer (1996); great grandpa John Mathis ( 1964); great grandma Altie Mathis(1954); grandpa Dwight Nordyke (1996); grandma Lova  Nordyke (2007); great grandma Fern Nordyke (1994);  great grandpa Ralph Nordyke (1982); great grandma Maud Willis (1971); great grandpa John Willis (1972); Father-in -law Arthur Harrison Holbert Jr. ( 1993).

He was a host of many friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

There will be no funeral; Brad's request for cremation was done.

A celebration of life will be held on June 17, 2023, from 12:00 til 3:00. at Centennial Park/ Duck Park in Canon City for all family and friends and lunch will be served.
