Carl Carnevale passed away on March 25th, 2026 in Canon City, Colorado. He was born May 20th, 1936 in the coal camp of Morley, Colorado; the 5th child of an Italian immigrant family. He would often recall with happiness growing up in Morley amongst family and friends. It was in Morley that he gained his love of hunting and fishing, his work ethic and his lifelong dedication to family. He spoke of days chopping wood, helping his mother clean the school and playing baseball with friends. When the coal mine in Morley closed Carl moved to Trinidad with his family. He attended Holy Trinity High School in Trinidad where he played baseball and football. Following high school, Carl started a long career working at the CFI steel mill in Pueblo. He retired from the mill in the 1980s. After his retirement Carl remained busy; caring for a large garden and working on many projects with his brothers for which he was lovingly known as the “hoe man” for mixing concrete. He also cared for his mother for many years and was always the “taxi” for friends and family members who needed transportation. He was an integral part of the lives of all his family and upon his death many commented on how lucky they were to have him present throughout their lives.
Carl lived in Trinidad for many years. As activities became more difficult for him he moved to Canon City with family where he continued to enjoy family visits, baseball and cookies. He was with family at his home in Canon City when he passed.
Carl is survived by his younger sister, Barbara (Barbee). He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy and Cosimo Domiano Carnevale and by his siblings, Francis (Willamson), Leonard, Angela (Machone), and Angelo.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad, Colorado on April 22, 2026 at 10:00 am followed by his burial at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery. A reception in his memory will be held at Mt. Carmel Community Center at 911 Robinson Avenue in Trinidad following the burial.
Carl was always a generous person. For those who would like to honor Carl a donation in his name can be made to the Catholic Diocese of Pueblo or to the City of Hope National Cancer Center.
