Charles R. Featherston unexpectedly passed away in his Canon City home on September 23,2025. He was born June 1,1936 in Ogalla Nebraska to Robert Featherston and Margaret (Schilz) Featherston. He grew up on the family farm in Nebraska this is where he developed his love of animals.  The family moved to Denver Colorado, and he graduated from East High School class of 1954. He then went to Colorado State University and pursued studies in the mental health field. He was in the Air Force and served as an EMT while serving our country. The family moved to the Black Forest Colorado Springs CO area in 1970. Where he worked for Target stores and later as a real estate agent. When the real estate marked crashed in the late 1980’s he worked at odds and ends and spent time in Las Vegas New Mexico helping to revive the town. With many of the old buildings in the town becoming a part of the national historical list. He then became employed in the mental health field at Evan’s Army Hospital on Fort Carson Base in 1989. He met his wife Maxine there and they moved to Penrose CO. Charles was an avid horseman and was an accomplished rider in Western and English saddle. He raised and showed appaloosa horses. He trained horses over the years and was a part of the National Appaloosa Club. He was able to revive and continue his love of horses in Penrose. Charles also became involved with many riding clubs and enjoyed sharing this hobby with his wife. He always shared his love of horses with his family and friends. When they retired, they moved to Canon City.  He was also an avid gardener, this coming from his mother. He grew beautiful flowers and delicious vegetables. Charles was known to have an array of animals at any time. Besides horses it was never surprising for him to have, Chickens, Ducks, Geese, Quail, Guinea hens, Dogs and Cats.  "After Glow" by Unknown

I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
of happy memories
that I leave when life is done
