Charlie Robert Marriott

Charlie Robert Marriott died March 10, 2021 at his home in Olney Springs, Colorado. He was born January 16, 1935 in Bent County, Colorado to Harold Roy Marriott and Vada Mae Best Marriott. Charlie grew up in the Lamar area and met Dorothy Babb there. They were married May 5, 1951. Charlie was employed by the Pepsi Cola Company in Lamar, Colorado for 15 years. He and his family moved to Canon City, Colorado in 1967, when he started a new career with the Colorado Department of Corrections. He and Dorothy moved to Olney Springs after the opening of the Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility. He worked for the department for 26 years, attaining the rank of major and retiring in 1993.

In addition to his career with the Department of Corrections, in the 1970s, Charlie and Dorothy also started raising Charolais cattle. He continued to ranch until his death.

Charlie is survived by his children, Charlene (Mark) Joy, of Jamestown, North Dakota, Steve (Lorene) Marriott, of Louisville, Colorado, Mike (Bertha) Marriott, of Canon City; grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Nordin, Becky (Jeremiah) Olson, Justin Marriott, Benjamin Joy, Christopher Marriott, Vanessa Marriott, Jennifer Marriott, Mary Beth Joy, Jamie Marriott; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Smith; sisters-in-law, June (Delmas) Beaman, Gayle Marriott; brother-in-law Dean (Peggy) Babb; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents; siblings, Jim (Irene) Marriott, Bob Marriott, Fern (Charles) King and Barbara Marriott.

Memorial service, 11a.m. Wednesday, March 24, Community Baptist Church, 319 First St., Crowley, Colorado.

Charlie’s family would like to express gratitude to the caregivers who aided with his care over the past months. His family also wishes to give special thanks to caregivers, Jason, Jessica, Isiah, Nye, Pam and Kevin, along with Sangre de Cristo Community Care and Hospice.
