Cheryl Marie Chavez, age 70, passed away at home on 17 June 2026 of natural causes. Cheryl was very loved by her many friends, family, and colleagues, and will be sorely missed by all. A native of Colorado Springs, Cheryl graduated from Coronado High School. After college, she worked at the United States Air Force Academy and moved up to higher and more responsible positions during her career of more than 40 years as an Air Force civilian working in Manpower. Cheryl’s love of traveling and new experiences led her to move to Ramstein Air Base, Germany for several years. While in Germany, she enjoyed the food, wine, and beer, and exploring Europe. Above all else in the world, Cheryl cherished her dogs and adopted several rescues over the years. She dedicated her life to giving them the best, most loving home possible. A beautiful woman inside and out, Cheryl was a gracious, kind, generous, and dedicated friend who always had an optimistic and positive attitude.
Cheryl is survived by her mother Maria (Theresa) Lopez (née Chavez), sister Denise Lopez-Esquibel (John), brothers Jerry (Tere) Greg (Elma), Chris (Jewel), Dominic (Liz), and Carlos (Mary) Lopez, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service will be announced at a later date. For information, please contact Sue Christensen at Christenskl@comcast.net. Anyone wishing to honor her may donate to their local animal shelter in Cheryl's name.
