Obituary

Clarence W. Chess passed away on April 12, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 17, 1951 to Dick H. and Christine (Wingo) Chess.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 49 years, Paula Kay (Pickett) Chess; children, Christine (Chance) Turner, Michele (Eric) Harris and Dick Chess; grandchildren, James and Wyatt Turner, Sawyer and Mason Harris, and Bailey and Jerome Chess. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, DeMaris Anne Chess.

Clarence lived on his parents ranch for 66 years, until he moved to Canon City. Besides ranching, he worked for the Fremont County Road Department and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department, as well as the Department of Corrections. He also worked as a pilot car driver and drove the bus for Saint Thomas More Hospital. Clarence loved working with leather, and he often repaired shoes, boots and saddles for extra income and was an avid yard saler. However, most of all, Clarence loved his family.
