Cotton Sweetland Obituary

Cotton Arthur Sweetland, age 70, passed away at his home in Penrose, Colorado on January 6, 2022. He was born on May 22, 1951, in Laramie, Wyoming, to Eugene and Bonnie Sweetland.

Cotton was the oldest of his siblings, Dundee, Lance, and Jeff. After graduating from Half Moon Bay High School in 1970, Cotton joined the Marines. During his service, Cotton was a Marine Embassy Guard in several foreign countries. After his discharge from the military, he became a millwright while living in Texas. Eventually, he moved to Colorado and worked as a union journeyman plumber and welder on construction sites until his retirement. In 1996, Cotton married the love of his life, his wife, Sharon. After his retirement in 2012, Cotton enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved to spend time at his family cabin in Northern Colorado.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Sweetland; brother, Jeff Sweetland; sisters-in-law, Victoria Newman and Sandra Lester; daughters, Tracey (Chris) Tayler and Stacey (Ryan) Funk; son, Frank (Jean) Wodiuk; nieces and nephews, Heather (Norbert) Jameson, Kelly (Andrew) Scott, and Geoff (Telisha) Newman; grandchildren, Kendall and Kyleigh; great-nephews and nieces, Maya, Lily, Aydin, Keaira, Persephone, Dallas, Savannah, Siennah, Edgar and Cody; and many other close family and friends.

Cotton is preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie and Eugene Sweetland; brother, Lance; sister, Dundee; and in-laws, Richard and Jacquiline Magill.

As per Cotton’s wishes, following cremation, a private family service will be held at a later date in the Smoky Mountain Range in Wyoming.
