Dallan Clare Hendry, age 84, passed away on January 15, 2024, with his family around him. After a hard
fought battle with pain he was able to claim victory.
Dallan was Born July 15, 1939, in Nampa Idaho to William and Cecile (Higginson) Hendry. After his
parents divorced, his mother remarried Rod Forgerson whom he grew to admire. After graduating high
school he joined the Idaho Air National Guard serving with his brother, Dean. In 1959 he was able to
meet Elizabeth Wight on a blind date and after a short time dating they were married June 5, 1959, in
the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He went on active duty in the
United States Air Force and was fond of telling people that he never had to go through basic training
because of the path that he took. His career took him, and his family, all over the world including
California, New Mexico, Germany, Thailand, Labrador, and finally Colorado. After serving for over 20
years he retired from the Air Force. His second career was working for the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints as a custodian which led him to move for his work one last time to Topeka, Kansas
Dallan served within the church in many ways but was always fond of working with the youth in the
scouting programs. Many stories have been shared with the family about trips in cars that were way too
small, and other adventures that would probably not be legal by today's safety standards. While he was
able he would help with the many service projects that would benefit families in the ward and beyond. He
quietly served not needing thanks or recognition. When it first opened, one of his favorite places to serve
was in the Denver Temple. He was there every Wednesday. He loved doing his family history. It was a
way for him to connect with others and belong to family which he missed growing up. He would tell
stories of family to any child and then to grandchildren that were there within earshot. Dallan also
enjoyed the old Western movies that he watched as a child. Gene Autry and Roy Rogers are his
