Daniel Lee Palm (83), of Canon City, Colorado, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Colorado Springs surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born December 2nd, 1942, in Bell, California to LeVanway (Lee) and Frances (Cutler) Palm.
Growing up in Southgate, California, a suburb of Los Angeles in the fifties was an adventure for Dan. He recalled years later how he loved to street race hotrods and motorcycles.
During these adventurous years, Dan began going to sea as a deck hand for his father, learning the family business of long-range sportfishing. Dan's father, Lee, was a pioneer of that industry in southern California.
Finding port in Point Loma, the Palm's created one of the first and most substantial sportfishing businesses out of San Diego, sailing far south, taking fisherman to the waters of Baja in search of yellowfin. Over the decades they owned several fishing yachts, with the flagship being the Red Rooster III, which is still in service to this day.
In the early 1980's, Dan married Connie Penny of Canon City, Colorado. They would have celebrated 45 years together this April 15th. For many years they lived in southern California, until they moved to Colorado in 1987. After commuting back and forth to San Diego for several years, Dan decided to sell his share of the business, and began living full time at their small ranch in Howard, Colorado. Years later, they moved to Canon, where he remained until his death. Dan's life in Colorado was equally full. He loved being outside; fishing and camping when he was younger.
He loved the holidays with his family and always enjoyed spending time with his dogs and having fun.
His grandchildren described him like this; thoughtful, kind, and friendly, always helpful and easygoing, loving, humble, and down to earth. He was genuine, mischievous, and a joker. He was Grandpa Dan.
Dan is survived by his wife, Connie; his sister, Cheryl; his children, Danelle Palm, Trace (Jane) Hall, Jenniffer (Cary) Engelman; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his brother, Jim; his sister, Lynn; and his son, Daniel, Jr.
