Danny Ray Guernsey at the age of 86 passed away on January 10th. Known as Dan or Bud, he was born in 1937 in Northeastern Colorado in the little town of Holyoke. He was the youngest of nine children and was born at home. He graduated high school in 1955 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1957. He returned to Holyoke to help with the family farm. After a year, he moved to Denver and store manager of Hesteads. He became a Denver firefighter in August, 1961 where he served for 27 years. February, 1962, Dan married Cloann Yvonne Neusbaum. They were married one month shy of their 62nd anniversary. Dan is survived by his wife, Cloann, his daughter, Renee Guernsey born 1963 (Chuck Gucwa), his son, Troy Guernsey born 1968 (Inga Guernsey), and two grandsons; Stran Guernsey and Kolt Guernsey. Dan and his family lived in Denver, CO until 1969, where they moved to Bennett, CO. Dan and his brother, Charles, built a house on 40 acres, where his family lived for 27 years. During that time he worked as a firefighter and opened a restaurant known as The Pizza Barn. That was sold in 1976. Then he owned and operated the Bennett Hardware & Lumber store, and it was sold in 1989. For seven years, Dan and his wife travelled the country in their RV. In 1996, they settled in Cottonwood, AZ, where they lived for ten years. In 2006, they moved back to Colorado in Canon City for 17 years. Dan had many hobbies and interests, but he was mostly known for his love of Classic Cars. Dan served as President with the VMCCA in Canon City for many years. A memorial service will be held in early March in Bennett, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in honor of Dan Guernsey to St. Jude Hospital. Arrangements were entrusted to Holt Funeral Home in Canon City, CO.
