David Joseph James (89)

David passed away at his home April 6, 2023, in Brighton, CO. He was born on December 28, 1933, in Williamsburg, Colorado to Joseph Palmer and Mary (DiGiacomo) James.

He grew up in Fremont County and graduated from Florence High School in 1951. After High School, he worked construction and was employed at CFI Steel Mill in Pueblo CO. In 1952, David joined the Marines. He achieved the rank of Sargent and received the National Defense Service medal and Good Conduct medal. After the military, he was a truck driver until he retired in 1996.

David had many privileges in life, one was building his own home and building a home for one of his daughters. He always believed in God and made his choice to live for his Lord and Savior on June 1, 1971, which later resulted in having the Brighton church in his home for 45 years. This was very special to him, and he loved it very much. David was very faithful in serving God and his family. 

He was an avid reader, a man of wisdom, and told interesting stories, and jokes. He used to say he knew history because he lived it. He loved old cars. He enjoyed fixing and repairing old machinery. He was a collector and if anyone needed something and he had it, it was theirs. Part of his wisdom in teaching his children was to drive down skid-row, so they could see how some people lived, with the thought it would help them in making wise choices. 

David is survived by his wife, Vera Mae; five children, Rick (Julie) James of Hudson CO; Charles (Marianne) James of Canon City, CO; Richelle (Greg) Knox of Eighty-four, PA; Leisa Buckley of Laramie, WY; and David, known as Joe, James of Brighton, CO. He had seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, his sister, Eileen Waitman of Thornton, CO; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was a stranger to no one. He will be greatly missed.
