Dennis Jay Meese was born on April 9, 1946, in Wayne, Nebraska to Eddie and Mildred Meese. They moved to Colorado where Dennis grew up and graduated from Canon City High school in 1965.
He was an amazing athlete with many records still held today in football and track. He met and married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Dunn) Meese. Dennis graduated from Colorado State University in Fort Collins where he had a track scholarship. He was very close to making the Olympic trials in the high hurdles. He held many jobs in Canon City including, owner of Western Auto, Pepsi Company, Colorado Refractories, and CDOC, where he retired as a case manager at Fremont. Dennis loved to golf, hunt, and fish with his family and had many wonderful memories at the cabin in Twin Lakes, Colorado. He enjoyed seeing his grandsons grow up and watching them play sports.
Dennis is survived by his daughter, Carrie (Brad) Hanenberg; son, Scott (Dalin) Meese; grandsons, Zac Hanenberg and Blake Hanenberg; brother and sister-in-law; as well as cousins and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Mildred Meese; wife, Carol Meese; brother, Morris Meese; and sister, Diane Meese.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022, at the Owl Cigar Store Restaurant: 626 Main St., Canon City, CO 81212. A small family ceremony will take place at a later date in Twin Lakes.
