Obituary

Deno Uldine Harris-Poindexter was born in Hollandsville, OK, on April 13, 1930. She was a member of the Cherokee Nation and was raised in Oklahoma. Deno moved to Canon City, CO as a young adult. She briefly moved to Las Vegas, but decided that town wasn't quite right for her and so she returned to Canon City where she spent the remainder of her life.

Deno was well known for her sense of humor and her quick wit was second to none. She was great at one-liners, and she could tell family stories which would paint a perfect picture of the past. If Deno loved you, you knew it! If she wasn't completely fond of you, you knew it. If Deno thought you were a good-looking man, you knew it! She was a sincere and fun-loving woman who embraced life and lived it to the fullest.

Deno was a well-known, award-winning Native American artist. She made a living as a hairdresser, retiring in 2007. She enjoyed spending time sewing, knitting, making ceramics, and flirting. Deno’s number one love above all was her family.

Deno is survived by her son, Shon Ray Poindexter; and her grandchildren, Chelsea Renee Moore (Joseph Cecil), Robert Charles Poindexter, Peter Rontos (Tanya), and Lilo Rontos; as well as her great-grandchildren, Addison, Kayson, Brayden Moore, Josh and PJ Rontos, Puella Lilo, Katie, Jordan and Ryan Rontos.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Pruitt Harris and Myrtle Sydney Davis; and her daughter, Patricia Kay Rontos.
