Desiree Morelli Obituary

Desiree Nadine Powley Morelli, 66, of Canon City, Colorado, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Born on September 26, 1959, in Whittier, California, Desiree was a bright and caring soul from the very beginning. She graduated from South Torrance High School in 1977 and later earned her associate’s degree in nursing from the Southern California Regional Occupational College, where she proudly served as valedictorian. Her gift was caring for others, and she lived that gift fully—first through medical office administration and, later in 2014, by becoming a certified Emergency Medical Technician.

After moving to Canon City, Desiree found a loving community at St. Thomas More Hospital. She cherished her coworkers and her patients, and they cherished her right back. Her compassion, humor, and genuine kindness touched countless lives.

Desiree married Anthony Morelli, in Fullerton, California. A few years later, after a long and eagerly awaited labor, they welcomed their son, Joseph Anthony Morelli, on January 19, 1988. His birth announcement lovingly shared that he “looked like his father but was quiet like his mother”—a description that delighted her. She and Joseph had a mother/son bond that continued throughout her life.

Desiree grew up alongside her older brother, Keith, her protector and lifelong partner in mischief. Their bond was stitched together with laughter, teasing, and unwavering loyalty. One of their favorite family stories comes from their high school years, when Desiree and a friend hid in an elephant ear bush, jumping out to startle Keith when he returned from a dance—then sprinting back into the house laughing. Moments like these captured her playful spirit perfectly.

To know Desiree was to know a true friend. She was someone you could call at any hour, someone who showed up before you even asked, someone who made every room warmer just by being in it. Her humor was quick, her stories unforgettable, and her heart endlessly generous.

Desiree is survived by her mother, Jolene; her beloved son, Joseph; her brother, Keith; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who adored her. She was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Powley.

A celebration of Desiree’s life will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, February 14, at Holt Family Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the home at 1:00 p.m.
