Dick (Dickie) Bauer, 82, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2025. He passed peacefully at his home in Cripple Creek; just 5 days prior to his 83rd birthday. He was born on January 6, 1942, the son of Jake and Wanda Bauer.
Dick grew up in the Cripple Creek district where he started at a young age, riding horseback and helping his parents maintain livestock. This is where he grew his love for animals. Dogs, cats, rabbits, an occasional calf, and horses. You name it, he wanted to take them in. At one time or another he may have had one or two in his home, nursing and loving them all.
Dick graduated from Cripple Creek High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation, he served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. After serving in the armed forces, Dick worked in the mining industry for several years prior to taking on the family excavation business, working small jobs operating his late father’s backhoe and dump truck. When legalized gambling came to town in 1991, Dick tried his luck working in the local casinos prior to his retirement.
Dick was a talented artist and enjoyed creating paintings of the local landscape. He loved to share stories about his knowledge and life’s adventures. Reading books on local history and US Wars was one of his favorite pastimes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeffrey Albert Bauer; his daughter, Juanita Allen; and former spouse, Gail-la Bauer.
He leaves behind his sons, Donnie (Donna) Bauer and Danny (Joyce) Bauer; twelve grandchildren, Bo, Tristin, Rachel, Michelle, Mercedes, Steven Allen, Ashely, Cody, Heather, Stephanie, Chris, and Kacee; eight great grandchildren, Adelyn, Pasley, Bryton, Scarlett, Calix, Myles, Bryson, and Emily; not to mention the many friends that he made over the years, especially the ones that were dearest to him near the end of the precious time he had left on this earth. A special thank you to Jesse Avery and Betsy Roy for loving him so well.
The frequent sightings of the little red scooter, driven by Dick around the streets of Cripple Creek will be missed by many.
Thank you so much to the Cripple Creek Police Dept. and Dispatch, local EMS, neighbors, and friends that looked after dad, making sure that he was safe in the place that was dearest to him, his home, Cripple Creek Colorado.
A graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery: 997 Teller County Rd 1 Cripple Creek, CO 80813. Immediately following the graveside there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering, from 1pm – 2:30pm at The Aspen Mine Center upstairs dining room located at: 166 E Bennett Ave, Cripple Creek, CO 80813.
