Dolores “Dee” Arlene (Lucerne) Lobpreis, 89, passed away on December 9, 2025 in Fullerton, CA at the care home where she lived for the past 5 years following a debilitating stroke. Dolores was born on February 7, 1936, the third of five daughters, in Cañon City, CO. She grew up in Englewood, CO where she attended St. Louis Catholic school and graduated from Loretto Heights College with a B.S. in Nursing in 1957. She joined the U.S. Navy a year later and served in the Navy Nurse Corps for 8 years. During her military career she spent two years overseas, in Guam and Japan, and attained the rank of Lieutenant (O-3) before leaving the service in 1966 to marry Capt. Ervin L. Lobpreis, MD and start her family. She lived in the Washington, D.C. area for several years before moving to California in 1974, where she remained for the rest of her life. Dolores returned to nursing in 1978 and worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse and childbirth educator for over 20 years. She finished her career as a nurse in the CA state prison system before retiring in 2006. Dolores was a lively, fiercely independent person who took great pride in her home, which she purchased in 1980 following her divorce. She was an avid gardener. Her small backyard in Southern California had a productive garden and was full of fruit trees. Her patio boasted a collection of cacti and succulents that would rival a botanical garden. She was a highly organized and creative person who enjoyed cooking/canning, sewing, and painting. She loved to laugh, tell stories about her adventures in the Navy, and share pictures of her family and grandkids. An entire wall in her home was dedicated to pictures of each branch of the family. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine (Pierce) and Anthony Lucerne, and her four sisters: Barbara Murphy, Margaret Lucerne, Dorothy Bailey, and Katherine Abnet. She is survived by her children, Andrew Lobpreis (Leisa Inman) and Helen Koudelková (Libor Koudelka), and two grandchildren, Antonín Koudelka and Luboš Koudelka (Rebecca Koudelková). Her first great grandbaby (a girl) is due in March 2026. A family memorial service will be held at Holt Family Funeral Home in Cañon City, CO on Friday, January 30, 2026. She will be buried with military honors at Union Highland Cemetery in Florence, CO alongside her parents and sisters.
