Don L. Brown, 87, of Canon City, died peacefully Sunday, October 6, 2024, in his home surrounded by his wife, 3 sons, daughter-in-law, and his little dog.
Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Brown; and his sons, Don Jr., Tim (Cheryl), and Jeff (Shelly); grandchildren, Brandy, Nathanael, Matthias, Tim, Isaac, Caleb, Joel, Derek, McKenzie, Tyler and Kaitlyn; sister Janet (Rod) Ross, Janice (Ron) Dukes; brother Dennis (Christiana) Brown, as well as nieces, nephews, and scores of cousins and friends. Don is preceded in death by wives, Norma (Black) and Sue (Lykins); parents, Ned and Louise Brown; and daughter, Brenda.
Don Livingston Brown was born on June 4, 1937, in Fort Dodge, IA where he was raised and graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1956. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably for 4 years. On June 3, 1956, he married Norma Lee Black at Riverside Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. The couple moved to Colorado Springs, CO following his discharge from military service. They settled in Monument, CO in 1964 where they raised their three sons and he fulfilled a life-long dream of working with horses. Don, at one time, was the Town of Monument maintenance man, marshal, judge, and president of the sanitation district. He was a stucco man for years as he utilized his skills in constructing new homes and businesses. After receiving Jesus as his Savior, Don answered the call to full time ministry. He pastored a church in the ranching community of Kim, CO where he served for 16 years. After his wife, Norma, died he moved to West Virginia and pastored for a year and a half, before moving back to Monument, CO where he met and fell in love with Sue. He finished his pastoral career at Anchor Way Baptist Church in Colorado Springs and retired in Canon City, CO. He was married to Sue for 5 years prior to her death. About a year and half later, May 26, 2007, he married Barbara, who loved him and blessed him for the rest of his life. He loved all professional Colorado sports teams, enjoyed fishing, playing with his children and grandchildren, and serving his community. If there was a need, Don Brown would step up and meet it. Most of all, he loved his Lord, declared His Word, and joyfully entered into his Master’s Presence just a little under a week ago!
