Dorothy Lee Olsen

Dorothy Lee Olsen passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2021, with her children by her side. She was 80 years old.

Dorothy was born in Denver, Colorado, on September 14, 1940, to the late Frank and Bess Dakan. Growing up in Englewood, she enjoyed spending time with her many cousins and spent summers and weekends at her grandparents’ ranch near Castle Rock. Dorothy graduated from Englewood High School in 1958, where she met her husband, Richard. Dick and Dorothy married in 1961 and had two children, Jeff and Carrie. The family enjoyed many happy years in Colorado with family and friends, spending a great deal of time at their family cabin. The couple moved to California in 1981, where Dorothy worked for many years running the front office for oral surgeons. After retirement, Dick and Dorothy moved back to Colorado and built a home in Canon City.

They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and spending time with their children and granddaughters. Dorothy especially loved her role as Mimi. She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, and was an avid quilter - even winning several ribbons at the Colorado State Fair. A ranch girl at heart, gardening was also a passion. She was the original Martha Stewart, and her hands were rarely still. Dorothy was a beloved member of St. John Lutheran Church and spent many hours organizing and cooking for church functions. Her favorites were the treats she would make for the church at Christmas and the annual Thanksgiving dinner. There was much to admire about Dorothy and to know her was to love her. She will be deeply missed.

Dorothy is survived by her son; Jeff, daughter; Carrie (Peter) Morris, two granddaughters; Georgie and Bailey, loving in-laws, nephews, nieces, many cousins, and a host of long-time friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Frank and Bess Dakan, husband; Richard Olsen, brother; Chuck Dakan, and nephew; Steven Olsen.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, 790 Greydene Street, Canon City, CO. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to St. John Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson Funeral Home, online condolences at holtfamilyfuneralhomes.com.
