Edward Franklin Henderson of Canon City, Colorado passed away on January 10, 2022, at the age of 74. Ed was born on October 11, 1947, to Ralph and Sara (Pike) Henderson in Anderson, South Carolina.
Ed and his three sisters, Claudia Lee Hendrix (deceased), MayNell Benton (deceased), and Nancy Singleton were placed in the Connie Maxwell Orphanage at a very young age. He was later drafted into the Army and served from 1966 to 1968 in Vietnam, receiving two purple heart medals. Ed was wounded as a door gunner for the 240th Assault Helicopter on March 27, 1968, losing the use of his right arm for 53 years. Ed was in the printing trade as plant manager for 33 years at Hotchkiss, Inc., retiring in 2002. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fly fisherman.
Ed is survived by his wife of 26 years, Deborra (Wentzel) Henderson; sister, Nancy Singleton of GA; son, Robert (Wendy) Henderson; daughter, Tracey Coates; son, Marc (Heather) Henderson of CO; daughter, Colleen Henderson of Switzerland; stepchildren, Amanda (Krebs) Frazier and Justin (Brianna) Krebs of CO; grandchildren, Jordan and Haley Henderson, Cole and Hannah Coates, Jase and Madison Henderson, and Lennox and Cheyenne Henderson; step-grandchildren, Taylor Oestmann, Stella Krebs, and Sydney and Jayden Hillis; and goddaughter, Andrea Dadderio of TX.
Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and godfather.
Services and military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A celebration of life will immediately follow at VFW Post 2788, 402 S Broadway, Penrose, CO 81240.
