Erik J.D Sebek passed away on October 27, 2024, at the age of 53 in Canon City, CO. He was born on July 2, 1971, in Bitburg, Germany, to his parents Jerry and Helga Sebek. Erik attended Northbrook High School and graduated in 1989. His career path led him to be the Director of Facilities for Fremont County, where he worked with pride and dedication for 13 years. Erik was deeply committed to Fremont County. He was quick to offer help and assistance to any county department and office in need. Erik tackled an enormous and diverse number of tasks with skill, competence, humor and even sleeping at a county building to make sure that it was warm in the morning. Erik made countless contributions to the citizens of Fremont County through oversight of, and hands-on work to the public facilities of the County, including Pathfinder Park Events Center, grounds and arenas, Public Health building, Emergency Management building, remodeling of numerous county offices, asbestos abatement, fire alarm systems, major re-roofing projects. No project was too small or too large for Erik; he was invaluable and will be deeply missed.
In 2006, Erik met his wife, Patty, in Slidell, LA. They got married shortly after, and they were blessed with two children, Chloe, born on June 30, 2007, and Aidan, born on August 14, 2008. Erik was a loving husband and father who adored his family. He was also a passionate fan of the Houston Texans.
Erik passed away suddenly, leaving a profound impact on everyone who knew him. He was a healthy, happy, and an exuberant person with a whole life ahead of him. His passing serves as a reminder that life is precious and fragile. Every moment we have with our loved ones is valuable, and we should cherish it, never taking them for granted.
Erik is survived by his wife, Patty; daughter, Chloe; son, Aidan; father, Jerry; and siblings, Kristin, Karvel, Anna, Kelton, Gavin, and Sherry. Erik is preceded in death by his mother, Helga; and grandparents, Atli Porbergsson, Kristin, Jerry, and Willa Sebek.
