Fleming Dunham Obituary

Fleming Nathan (Nate) Dunham (Retired, US Army), a military veteran who honorably served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, entered the arms of his Savior on September 8, 2024, in Pueblo, CO at the age of 93. Born in Willard, NM to Roy and Ruth (Underwood) Dunham, Nate joined the US Army at the tender age of 18. During his career he held the positions of artillery gunman and photographer. Nate was a highly decorated soldier, awarded 19 medals, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Army Commendation medal. Throughout his career Nate received many letters of appreciation and commendation for professionalism, exceptional ability, dedication, and excellence in leadership.

After retiring from the US Army, Nate worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections as a correctional officer until 1992.

Nate was passionate about his faith, his family, and his country. He enjoyed leading men’s bible study groups and serving at his local church. He was an avid reader, photographer, and car enthusiast, and also enjoyed hiking, biking, backpacking, hunting, fishing, and camping in the beautiful Colorado mountains. He especially enjoyed collecting antique fishing reels and was a member of the Old Reel Collectors Association.

He was preceded in death by Pat, his wife of 33 years, his parents, and his eldest son, Stan Dunham (Denise). He leaves a son, Michael Dunham (Dawn); and a daughter, Jill Hauschildt (Jack); stepson, Dan Rathbun; stepdaughters, Daria Cruzen (Shawn), and Dana Dahl-Breske (Dan); fourteen grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Adele “Bootsie” Dunham; cousins, Lela “Gayle” Merz, Lura Dymond, and several more cousins, nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by his family as well as countless friends and neighbors.

A celebration of his life will take place on September 28, 2024, at 10am at Grandview Christian Church, 3245 Grandview Avenue, Canon City, CO, followed by interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City.
