On February 20, 2024, Gary G. Curnutte entered triumphantly into Paradise. His celebration of life will take place on Leap Day, February 29, 2024, an homage to his comical nature and sure to bring joy to all who loved him.
Gary was born in Vanita, OK in 1947 to Thomas J. and Jean E. Curnutte (Epperson). He was a graduate of CCHS in 1965. Immediately following graduation, he joined the USAF. He was honorably discharged after serving 20 years. He married Katherine F. Arnold in July 1968. They both enjoyed traveling and visiting various countries with the military. He had two daughters, Sabrina J. Wilson (Curnutte) in February 1970 and Melinda K. Jardine (Curnutte) in June 1973. Both were born in Germany. When he retired from the Air Force, the family moved back to Canon City in 1985. Jobs were hard to find. He even spent 2 years as a contracting consultant in Saudia Arabia. Eventually, he became an Over the Road truck driver where he spent 21 years driving coast to coast and border to border.
It was while he was trucking that he started helping others and sharing his faith in Christ. He hung up his truck keys in 2011, but he missed driving and started driving for Senior Services, where he took people to their medical appointments. Because of his caring words and willingness to help, he became a favorite driver. He was an active member of the Men’s Group at his church, Christ First Community Church, and willingly offered his time and helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and son-in-law, David Wilson. Gary is survived by his wife, Katherine of 56 years; brother, Jefferson L. Curnutte (Susan); and two daughters, Sabrina Wilson (David) of Canon City and Melinda Jardine (Timothy) of Puyallup, WA. His grandchildren brought him joy and filled his heart. He was so proud of them. Joshua Wilson (Samantha) are stationed in Alaska with the Army, Dr. Taylor Wilson DVM is in San Antonio, TX, Allison Wilson of Canon City is busy attending college, Gabriela Jardine is creating animation, and Micah Jardine is a professional photographer.
