Gerald "Jerry" Lloyd Obituary

Jerry Lloyd, of Florence, CO, passed away surrounded by family on March 3, 2023, at the age of 71.

The first thing that came to mind when I began writing this was a great line from “City Slickers,” when Curly the hard-nosed cattle rustler passes away unexpectedly and is eulogized, “Lord, we give you, Curly. Try not to piss him off.” People who knew Jerry in his younger days will understand that reference, those who only knew him later in life will have no idea. He could be fierce when provoked and then you could find him later playing Barbie’s with one of his granddaughters on the living room floor.  He loved deep, was fiercely loyal, tough as nails, empathetic, generous beyond measure, street wise and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Jerry loved to hunt, camp and have a drink or toke with his friends. He loved good music (Rock and Roll along with Outlaw Country) and maintained it should be played at 10. He gave good advice and it definitely wasn’t easy to pull the wool over his eyes (he’d usually already done whatever you were trying to get away with.) He taught his kids numerous life lessons (some of them what not to do by example.) He was a great dad and grandfather. He lit up when his grandchildren were around and showed infinitely more patience with them then his own children when they were young.

Jerry encompassed many different attributes depending on the occasion or necessity. He loved with all his heart and always worried about others. He would help virtually anyone, in any way he could. He was a good provider and his family never wanted for anything. We’ll miss him and grieve him for the rest of our lives, but we find solace in the knowledge that most of his friends and his father, Wilsey, preceded him in death. We have no doubt that there was one heck of a party upon his arrival in Heaven.

Jerry leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Linda; children, Gerad (Shannon) Lloyd, Lisa (William) Brannen, Jason (Tessa) Lloyd and Dana (Andrew) Addington; mother, Ella; 12 grandchildren; sister, Linda (Randy) Walser; and numerous extended family and friends, including his best friend and four-legged pal Rocco.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 2p.m., March 24, 2023 at The Elks Lodge: 131 E. Front Street, in Florence.
