Geraldine Black Obituary

Geraldine Ruth Brady Black
November 5, 1933 – May 13, 2025
Colorado Springs, Colorado

Our loving mother, Geraldine "Jerry" Black passed away on May 13, 2025, in Colorado Springs, CO. She
was 91 years old.
Jerry was born into a large family of 9 children.  She was the youngest daughter to Rebecca Jane Grose
Brady and Horace Leonard Brady. She grew up in Coaldale, Colorado with the beautiful Sangre De
Christo Mountains as her backdrop.  She attended high school at Cotopaxi, Colorado.  She married her
high school sweetheart, Alfred Black, on June 15, 1952. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary
prior to Alfred passing in July of 2013.
Jerry worked to put Alfred through college, after his military service, at Colorado State University in Fort
Collins.  After his graduation they moved to Sidney, Montana where they adopted and raised three
children, Michael, Michelle and Maria.  They later were transferred to Mandan, North Dakota in 1979,
when Alfred was appointed the Director of the USDA office for that region.  Jerry was involved with her
the church, was an avid bowler, and made a comfortable home filled with the smell of baked goods and
coffee on any given day of the week.  She enjoyed doing crafts which included knitting, crocheting,
quilting and plastic crafts. She was often taking crafting classes within the community. Jerry attended
every school activity, swim meet, band or choir concert, plays and any other activity her children
became involved in.
Jerry had the house that her friends came to for a visit regularly to enjoy each other’s company.  She
was recognized by one of her friends in the local newspaper for her kindness, generosity, and willingness
to help her neighbors.  Jerry made sure all her friends felt welcome in her home and that they could
confide in her about anything and count on her to help in any way she could.
When Alfred retired, they relocated to Canon City, Colorado in 1994 to live close to their siblings and
extended family.  Upon relocating Jerry, again, developed very close friendships with the neighbors in
her new community where she made sure that her friends knew how much she cared for them.  She
spent her time making yarn crafts for all around her as well as her own home.  She found joy in
decorating for all holidays and baking treats for her siblings and family.
Jerry will be remembered for her pleasant attitude, sweet demeaner, her quiet support to those she
loved, and as someone who gave to others. She was a hard-working woman that was busy every day of
her life and took pride in her independence.
Jerry is survived by her two daughters, Michelle Black, Powell Wyoming; Maria Black, Colorado Springs,
CO; and brother Leonard (Elaine) Brady, Canon City, Co. She was preceded in death by her husband
Alfred Black, her son Michael Black, her parents and four sisters, Edith Newberry, Ethel Campbell, Gladys
Howard and Fay Emmerson Pray. Two brothers Richard Brady and Joe Brady. Surviving siblings are
Leonard Brady.
