Gregory Shattuck Obituary

Gregory Lee Shattuck passed away August 10, 2024 while watching a final sunrise overlooking the Sangre de Cristo mountains from his mountain cabin outside Westcliffe, CO.

He was born to Olive Uhl and Richard Shattuck on November 4, 1951 in Mapleton, IA and grew up in Smithland, IA. Greg graduated from West Wood High School in Sloan, IA where he was the drum major for the marching band and taught himself the guitar in order to be in the choir.  Rumor had it, he never learned to read music, but had a couple of very willing tutors.

Greg married his high school sweetheart, Cinda Longval in 1974 and moved to Arizona where they had their daughter Lindsey Lee in 1979. Shortly thereafter, Greg moved to Durango, CO and fell in love with the mountains and Karen Lynn Dages, who he married in 1988. Karen and Greg spent the next 42 years between Colorado, Texas, and Florida where he found a new passion for the sea and sailing.  He was content but the mountains were calling.

Retiring in 2015, they moved to their mountain cabin outside of Westcliffe, CO where he enjoyed the wildlife, majestic mountains and photography that he shared with family and friends through social media.

Greg is survived by his wife, Karen Dages Shattuck of Westcliffe, CO; daughter, Lindsey Lee Trumbull of San Tan Valley, AZ; grandson, Chase Anthony Trumbull of San Tan Valley, AZ; sister, Kay (Johnny) Hollowell of Montrose, CO; brother, Wayne (Carol Bailey) of Clearwater FL; nieces, Roxanne Woodward of Lake Havasu City,  AZ , Danielle Woodward of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Debbie Woodward, of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Kathy Woodward of Grand Junction, CO and  Jill Hollowell, of Portland, OR; nephews, Bruce Hollowell (Chris) of Durango, CO and Barry Hollowell of Hugo, CO; special friends, Jim and Cinda Kelafas and Karen Droessler; as well as many great-nieces and nephews and many great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Richard Shattuck; brother, Lloyd; sister, Patricia Woodward; brother-in-law, Rex Woodward; and nephew, Robert Woodword.
