Harold Coonradt Obituary

Harold L. Coonradt, resident of Penrose, CO, died on June 28, 2024 at the age of 102. He was the son of Ora and Janet Coonradt, from Charles City, Iowa. He was predeceased by his brother, Rowland, first wife, Doris and second wife, Marlene. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Ron) McFarlane; son, Bruce (Martha) Coonradt; son, Brian (Joy) Coonradt; daughter, Jenise (Mike) Dalton; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Harold was born in a country farm house near Osage, Iowa. He graduated from High School on June 7, 1939 and entered the US Army Horse Cavalry on June 27, 1939. Most of his career was spent in administrative positions, retiring as a Major from the Army Intelligence Branch on January 31, 1961. The next 8 years he worked for an information technology computer service company, then worked 10 years  in Civil Service with the IRS. He retired as the Physical Security Officer with the IRS in Washington, DC, in August 1980. He moved immediately to a small acreage farm in Penrose, CO, where he spent his remaining years, raising grandchildren and horses. From age 72 to 81 he competed in numerous Combined Driving Events with his pair of home raised Arabian Geldings.

Harold accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 40, following the conversion of his wife and three of his children. Subsequently, in addition to his day job, he was actively involved in his church in Lexington, MA. He served as President of a Christian Boys Camp in Maine for 5 years, Chairman of the Trustees for 6 years in Church in Annandale, VA, then served for three years as a Trustee in Canon Community Baptist Church, Canon City, CO.

A Memorial service will be held at Canon Community Baptist Church: 1111 Monroe Ave, Canon City, on Saturday, July 6 at 10 a.m. He will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
