Harold Wesley Stites, 92 years old, passed away at home in Grand Junction, CO on April 20, 2023. Wes, as he was known, was born March 14, 1931, on the family farm near Alva, Oklahoma, the first child of T. Harold and Naomi (Baxter) Stites.
After graduating from Alva High School, he went to work for Safeway in 1949 and retired from Safeway in 1994. He worked in several towns in Oklahoma, including Enid, where he met and married Joyce Kee in 1953. After a brief stay in Los Angeles, the family settled in Canon City, CO in 1963. They lived there until 2021 when he and Joyce moved to Grand Junction to be close to family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Mary Laverna and Judy. He is survived by siblings, Donald and Ruby; his wife, Joyce; sons, Wesley E. (Jacqueline), and John C. (Genell); grandchildren: Claire, Corwin, Caroline, Amanda, Ian, and Ben; grandson-in-law, Dawson Moore; and great-grandchildren: Peter, Luke, and Jobe.
A Funeral Service will be held at Holt Chapel, 806 Macon Ave., Canon City, CO 81212, on Tuesday, April 25, at 11 AM. Interment is to take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Canon City, CO on a separate date.
