Jacqueline Johnson-Garoutte Obituary

Jacqueline (Jackie) Kay Johnson-Garoutte, 65, of Canon City, Colorado, died on Thursday, April 29, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. She was born April 1, 1955 in Norway, Michigan to Ken and Marilu (Calcatera) Johnson.

Jackie was a long-time resident of Canon City.  She moved to Colorado from her childhood home in Michigan at the age of 24.  She graduated from Pennfield High School located in Battle Creek, MI in 1974.  She married Dennis Garoutte on August 8, 1987.  She ran, and then owned Walt’s Appliances, in Canon City. Buying, selling, and fixing appliances for the last 30+ years.  She also managed storage units, apartments, and several downtown spaces.  She liked to keep busy.

Jackie loved to read, shop for deals at Goodwill, and host a good sale, and a bowl of ice cream.  She was a lover of animals. She and Dennis always owned at least 2 dogs and some times as many as 4.  Her favorite breed was the dachshund.  She leaves behind 2 beloved wiener-dogs, Sunny D and Holly.  Jackie was always up for a good card game or a trip to the casino.  She was a loyal sports fan who cheered for the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Broncos.  She most recently cheered her nephew Ryne because his football and basketball games this year were available for her to live-stream right into her living room from Michigan.

Surviving are her father, Ken (Corrine) Johnson of Florence, WI; brothers, Michael Johnson of Battle Creek, MI and Scott (Sheri) Johnson of Battle Creek, MI; a sister, Jill (Eric) Petersen of Battle Creek, MI; many nieces and nephews and her good friends- Brenda, Karrie and Dave of Canon City, CO.  Her husband Dennis (2019), mother, Marilu Johnson (2003), sister, Jeanne Grise (2013) and longtime friend Walt Shy (2019) preceded her in death.

Her friends and family will miss her smile, her laugh, and her one-of-a –kind personality.

We would like to thank Hospice of Canon City for their help and care during her last days.
