Janet Irene Zimmerman, 98, of Canon City, Colorado passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026.
Janet was born on August 19, 1927, on Oak Creek Grade just outside of Canon City. She grew up on her parent’s cattle ranch and walked several miles each day to attend school in Chandler. The school steps still remain to this day. After moving to Canon City in her teens, she graduated from Canon City High School. Janet was married to Gomer Zimmerman for 52 years. Janet was an active member of the First Baptist Church and was the church librarian. She was a very active member of Eastern Star and a Past Matron. She served in many leadership roles in Eastern Star. Janet was involved with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and a member of the PTA. Janet loved to travel with her husband and family and visited all fifty states and several of the Canadian Provinces. On many weekends in the summer, you could find her and her family in Taylor Park camping in a tent and later in a truck camper.
She is survived by her children, Thomas L (Dawn) of Lisbon, WI, Philip E (Walt) of Colorado Springs, CO and Nancy J (Graham) Yelton of Sandia Park, NM; plus eighteen grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gomer Zimmerman.
Janet enjoyed her rose and iris garden and reading her books.
Her ashes will be placed with her husbands on Eight Mile with stunning views of Pikes Peak and the Sandra de Cristo Mountain range.
