Jerry, 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 29, 2023.
Jerry was born on December 21, 1946, in Hosmer, SD, to Adolph and Gertrude Mohr.
Jerry attended college in Springfield, SD, where he earned his associate degree in woodworking. After college, he ran his own woodworking business and taught wood shop at the local high school. In 1982, Jerry came to Florence to help Dewey Layton finish a pipe organ for the church in Vermillion, SD. He loved the area so much; he moved his family to Florence in 1983. Together, Jerry and Joanne opened Mohr’s Handcrafted Furniture and Wood Items in Florence, which they have owned and operated for over 40 years.
Jerry was a member of the Shepherds of the Hills Lutheran Church in Canon City, CO. He loved to sing in their choir until his health prevented him from attending church services.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joanne; children, Tammy (Eric) Mehring, Sarah Mohr (Greg Micheli), and Monica Mohr; grandchildren, Toni Mehring, Jessica Mehring (Kyle Jones), Brandon (Shelby) Mehring, Aaron Mehring, and Alex Mehring; great-grandchildren, Addison, Amelia, and Annabelle Mehring; sister, Sharon Kay (Willard) Hieb; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph, and Gertrude; sister, Imogene Schmahl; and son, Brian Mohr.
Jerry will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on August 12, 2023, at 10 am at the Bell Tower Cultural Center (201 East 2nd Street) in Florence, CO. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Lions Park in Florence following the service (Loma Dr, E 5th Street. Robin Road)
