Joann Elizabeth (Conners) Peck passed away peacefully on October 23, 2022. She had just celebrated her 93rd birthday. Joann was born on October 2, 1929 to Stewart and Ethel (Bickerton) Conners in Peoria, IL. Joann was raised in the many small mining communities in the Trinidad – Aguilar area. Her father was a superintendent of the CFI mines in the area. She attended school in Trinidad, including Trinidad Junior College. She met and married her first husband while attending college, and they then moved to California. Later, Joann returned to Trinidad and then moved to Alamosa where she attended Adams State. There, she received her Master’s degree in Special Education. She met and married her second husband, Donald Peck. They moved to Pueblo, CO where Joann was a teacher for District 70. Joann taught for 24 years.
Joann is survived by her children, Stewart T. Baker, Donita Rafferty, Julie A. (John) Dyer, Rhonda (Allen) Gerth, and Mike (Cathy) Peck; as well as 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William C. Baker; second husband, Donald L. Peck; stepsons, Daniel D. Peck and Joel L. Peck. She was known to many as “Grandma Penrose” and “Woodpecker.” She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m, Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints: 1435 Elm Ave. Canon City, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Research Association.
