John F. Spaar

John F. Spaar, age 91, of Wetmore, Colorado, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 17, 2022, at Parkview Medical Center.

John was born in 1930 in Norwalk, Ohio, to Frank and Florence Spaar. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Chief Master Sargent after 30 years of service. He then worked in the aerospace industry at Raytheon Corporation. He first came to Wetmore in 1970 on a fishing trip and fell in love with the area.  John was married to MaryAnn (Hurd) Spaar for 48 years and they had four children, Steven, Michael, Teri, and Willie. After MaryAnn’s passing, John found love again and married Ruth Breece on March 24, 2001. He and Ruth enjoyed traveling and visiting family. John was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Florence, CO. John was a loving husband, father, and a faithful friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed living in the Wetmore area and loved the beautiful mountains of Colorado. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth; children, Stephen (Carol), Teri Northrop (Doug), Willie (Krissell), and Debbie Summers (Bruce); and his grandchildren, CJ, Cody, Mat, Jessica, Stephen, Kimberly, Scott, Nick, Randy, Barbara, and Tyler. He is also survived by Dana Angel, Debbie Breece, and Rebecca Spaar; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

John is preceded in death by Frank and Florence Spaar, MaryAnn Spaar, Richard Spaar, Kenneth Spaar, Margaret Finch, Michael Spaar, Jillian Summers, Cindy Angel, and Frank Breece.

The Rosary will be said at 9:30 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2022, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church: 622 West 2nd Street, Florence, CO. Prior to recitation of the Rosary, a visitation will be held from 9:00 to 9:30 AM. Interment will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO at a later date.
