Joseph N. D’Angelo Obituary
Eighty-nine years of age and resident of Westcliffe, CO, Joseph Nicholas D’Angelo passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colorado.
Joe is survived by his son, Joseph D’Angelo and his wife, Mary Christine (Corrado) D’Angelo of Pennsylvania; his daughter, Lenora (D’Angelo) Falciani and her husband, Andrew Falciani of North Carolina.
Joseph had five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Nicholas D’Angelo of Pennsylvania, Stephen D’Angelo of Pennsylvania, Natalie (D’Angelo) and Larry D’Arrigo and their daughter, Ella Christine D’Arrigo, of Pennsylvania, Andrew, and Amanda (Debres) Falciani and their son, Ethan Andrew Falciani, of Texas, and Alexander and Ava (Gilotti) Falciani of North Carolina.
Born in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joseph was the son of Nicholas and Cecelia (Sienna) D’Angelo. He was the loving husband of the late Lenora (Papaloni) D’Angelo for sixty-one years.
Joe served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg (now known as Fort Liberty), North Carolina during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged after four years of service. During this time, he married his beloved Lenora.
Following military service, Joe returned home to Pennsylvania to start D’Angelo Trenching & Construction, Inc. with his older brothers, Tony, and John D’Angelo.
He began his coaching career by starting a high school wrestling program at St. James Catholic High School in Chester, Pennsylvania.
After moving to Colorado in 1977, “Coach Joe” continued a long career of coaching wrestling and cross country, beginning in Golden, Colorado at Golden High School and later at Custer County High School in Westcliffe.
When Joe retired from Jefferson County Public Schools as a Project Manager, where he oversaw many large building projects including Conifer High School, he and Lenora moved to Westcliffe and built a home.
Joe became the assistant wrestling coach at Custer High School in Westcliffe. He also volunteered in a Special Needs classroom.
Joe had an appreciation of music all his life and enjoyed singing in the Our Lady of the Assumption choir. Recently, he enjoyed singing Sinatra on Karaoke Nights at the Dome in Westcliffe. Writing was another enjoyable activity for Joe, and he recently had a reflection published in the local paper.
Joseph’s life was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know him. Joe will be missed.
The life of Joe D’Angelo will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Westcliffe on Friday, August 18, 2023 beginning with visitation at the church at 9:00am, followed by the Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Mother at 10:00am, and a Catholic Mass at 10:30am. Joseph will be buried with military honors at Our Lady of the Assumption Cemetery in Westcliffe.
