Joseph Fazzino Obituary

We, the family, regret to announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the son of Leonard “Nardo” Fazzino and Margaret Valerio Fazzino.

Joe spent his childhood growing up in Rockvale, CO. He attended Florence High School, graduating class of 1957. Joe was a proud member of the Colorado National Guard, ready to defend his country.

Joe was employed by Harbison/Walker Brick Company, Lockhart Quarry as a truck driver, Smith Brothers Cabinet Shop as a carpenter, Ralph Carestia Trucking as a truck driver hauling coal locally and covering Southern Colorado.

Working out of Pueblo, he was employed by Southern Colorado Power Co. for 38 years. Joe received a High Honor Certificate for his knowledge of diesel machinery. His mother called him “Hands of Gold”, having excelled at welding, carpentry, auto mechanics, body shop work, auto painting, and electrical work. He always had a project going on in his garage after work every night with his good buddies.

Every day, Joe loved going to Veterans Park and The Royal Gorge Route Railway parking area, where he greatly enjoyed feeding the squirrels, watching the trains depart and the people, and trains in general.

He enjoyed going to Cripple Creek and traveling to Red Canyon to enjoy looking at the elk and other wildlife.

Joe is survived by his three children, Jimmy (Kim) Fazzino, Judy (Gorman) James, and Janice (John K. Kimmick). He is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Scheele, Sarah James (Cory Happ), Marsha James (Michael Simpson), and Raquel Fazzino.

He was known as “Papa Joe” to his great-grandchildren: Shianne Scheele, Paislee Happ, Kenzi Scheele, Garrison Happ, Adelyn Happ, Stetson Happ, and baby boy Simpson on the way soon.

Also surviving is the mother of his children, Norma Fazzino; and friend Charlotte Kimmick.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Florence CO at 10 AM.
