On July 4, 2023, Joseph "Joe" Trebella passed away at home surrounded by family after a five-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
Joe Trebella was born in Youngstown, OH to John and Theresa Trebella. He attended North High School and Youngstown State University where he received a B.S. in biology, and West Virginia University where he received his M.S. in Ecology. He served 2 years in the US Army stationed in Natick Labs in Massachusetts where he met his beloved wife Nancy Woloschuk whom he married in 1970. They celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage together.
In 1971, he attended Colorado State University where he received his teaching certificate. Joe and Nancy moved to Canon City in 1975, where he taught at the Middle School and then High School Chemistry until 2001. In 1985, he attended the Woodrow Winston Institute at Princeton University for Chemistry.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa and John; and his son Doug. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Matthew (Amy); sister, Janet Amatore (Dominic); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe loved to hunt and fish and to restore old vehicles including a 1964 Corvette and 1948 Military Tribute Jeep. Joe travelled extensively including all 50 states, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Iceland, Central America, the Galapagos Islands, and numerous islands in the South Pacific, Hawaii being one of his favorite destinations. His beloved retirement Labrador Retriever Bruno accompanied him in the hogbacks on daily walks no matter the weather. He played racquetball and tennis and explored with the Canyonland hikers. He celebrated his Italian heritage and was a member of the Royal Gorge Lodge of the Sons and Daughters of Italy where his colorful sense of humor flourished. Many of his friends remember him referring to himself as “Mr. Patience.”
A Celebration of Life is planned for September 16, 2023 at Caddy’s Garden, Garfield Street, from 1-3pm. Attire for the celebration is casual, Hawaiian shirts encouraged and no neckties allowed.
