Joy Greenwood, a longtime resident of Canon City, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026. She moved here at the age of three from her birthplace in Weskan, Kansas, with her parents, Gillis and Sylvia Phillips, and her three older siblings.
She attended grade school, junior high, and graduated with the class of 1953 from Canon City High School.
She was working for the telephone company in Pueblo until her marriage in 1958 to classmate Myron Greenwood, who preceded her in death in 2008.
Joy was happy to be a stay-at-home mother, taking care of and sharing in her three children’s different activities. Her later years were spent as a caretaker for her parents and enjoying playing with the grandchildren.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 65 years and enjoyed the many close friendships, social programs, and community projects.
She was happy to still be living in her home that she and Myron built together in 1960.
She is survived by her son Mike (Tanya) of Fountain, CO, daughters Kim (James) Beicker of Canon City, and Kelly (Bill) of Pueblo. Grandson Dalton of Canon City, three granddaughters, Tiffany, Devon, and Lilliana (Trevor). Four great-granddaughters, Sheylin, Saphira, Neveha, and Nayka, three sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her favorite Charities were Orchard of Hope, in Canon, St. Jude's, and Wounded Warriors. If you wish to make a donation in her memory. Special thanks to Sangre De Cristo Hospice for their care over the last several months. At her request, only a family service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery.
