Judith Elaine (Brooks) McCormick was born December 30, 1948, in Denver, Colorado, where she was placed for adoption. She was blessed to become the daughter of Irl V. and Clara B. (Hall) Brooks.
She was raised on a farm in Del Norte, Colorado, until the age of 13, at which time the family moved to Alamosa. An extended drought had taken many farmer’s land from them, including their family farm.
She attended schools in Center, Del Norte, and Alamosa.
Although their families had known each other all their lives, in the summer of 1965, she realized Tom McCormick would be the man who she would spend her life with. November 20, 1965, they were married in Alamosa, Colorado.
The couple then started their life in the Navy, Tom on the USS Cadmus and Judy at their new home in Newport, Rhode Island.
Not long after, they found themselves in Waukegan, Illinois, where Tom attended training in Great Lakes Naval Station. While there, they welcomed their first daughter, Carol. The Navy also took them to the Philippine Islands, where their second daughter, Elizabeth was born.
In 1971, Tom was honorably discharged and they returned home to Alamosa where they welcomed their third daughter, Terri, and youngest Jennifer.
In 1979, they relocated to Florence, Colorado, where they lived for many years. After traveling the country, they retired to Coal Creek, Colorado, where Judy discovered her passion for community service, serving on the town board and mayor for 13 years. She served on numerous boards and was instrumental in the creation of many intergovernmental collaborations.
Judy had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She believed families are here, then, following the teachings of the Bible and the Book of Mormon, families could also be together throughout eternity. She was sealed to Tom, in the Denver Colorado Temple.
Judy is survived by her eternal companion, Tom McCormick. Her brother, Mike (Marsha) Brooks. Her children Carol and Randy Just, Elizabeth and Mark Lenz, Terri and Brady Burleson, and Jennifer and Bill Trader.
Her grandchildren, whom she loved MOST: Jamie (Billy) Masson, Shawn Hutchins, Jarred Crussell, Emily (Oliver Arana) Crussell, Katherine (Todd) Mair, Erik (Alysha) McCormick, Morgan Burleson, Lindsey (Chase) Vossler, Landon Burleson, Ryan McCormick, and Jacob Trader. Great-grandchildren: Kate, Jace, Conner, Allie, Julian, Shaleena, Nathan, Peyton, Xander, Zayne and Paisley.
