Judy Ann Hawthorne was born to John and Mildred Hawthorne in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 15, 1947. They, along with her younger brother Roland, made their home in Cañon City, Colorado. While growing up, she enjoyed hunting for rocks and minerals with her family and this interest led Judy to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology.
Her love of precious stones was evident from the enjoyment she received in designing and collecting jewelry. Judy’s other hobby was reading, which contributed to her pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Librarianship from the University of Denver. Judy enjoyed her career working at several military bases as a science librarian, the latest at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Judy passed away September 24, 2020 at her home in Cañon City at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her brother, Roland Hawthorne. She leaves behind her nephew, Robert Hawthorne (Tracey); great-nephew, Cale Hawthorne; niece, Melissa Hawthorne; great-nephew, Charleston Harrold; sister-in-law, Ann Hawthorne; many cousins and several dear, close friends whom she enjoyed very much.
No service was held for Judy at her request, but she asked to be remembered instead by sharing stories about her that touched you in some way.
