Karen Sue Walters, 79, a former Goodland, Kansas, resident, passed away in Canon City, Colorado, on May 21, 2025, surrounded by family. She was born on June 16th, 1945, in Goodland, Kansas, to Martin and Ruth Ann (Hines) Felzien. Karen graduated from Kanarado High School in Kanarado, Kansas, in 1963, and then attended Beauty School in Denver, Colorado. She married Lester Walters in July 1963 and later moved from their home in Goodland to their farm south of Goodland. She went to work for the Goodland School District in the Nutritional Services Department, following her sons through their school years, starting at Central Elementary School, then Grant Junior High School, then Goodland High School, then finishing her time with the Goodland School District at North Elementary School.
In 2001, Karen and Lester moved to Canon City, Colorado, where she worked at the Radio Grill at Walmart before going to work as a Pastry Chef at the Abby Monastery, preparing desserts for the Monks, until she finally retired.
Karen loved doing numerous crafts, reading, doing puzzles, and painting. She cherished her time with her grandkids and her family.
She is survived by her son Conrad (Tracy) Walters, son Curtis Walters, brother Mark (Bobbie) Felzien, grandchildren Kayla (Steve) Faley, Brayden Walters, and Danaye Walters, and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lester Walters, her father, Martin Felzien, her Mother, Ruth Ann (Hines) Felzien, and her In-laws.
At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements handled by Holt Family Funeral Home in Canon City, Colorado.
