Kenneth James Payne, known affectionately as Ken, passed away on July 1, 2024, in Greeley, Colorado, at the age of 67. Born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky on October 20, 1956, Ken grew into a man deeply rooted in faith, known for his kind and compassionate nature, and a delightful sense of humor. Family was the cornerstone of his life, especially cherishing moments with his grandchildren.
Ken graduated from Colonial High School in Orlando, Florida, in 1974, and later earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the Devry Institute of Technology in Atlanta and Arizona in 1978. His career was marked by significant contributions to the tech industry, beginning at Martin Marietta, where he worked on the Patriot missile. He later joined Compaq and Dell Computer Corporation. Following the tech layoffs in 2001, Ken transitioned to a successful career in finance, working with firms such as Edward Jones, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, LPL Financial, Gold Standard, and Edelman Financial Engines.
Ken’s personal interests were as diverse as his career. He was an avid tinkerer, often found dismantling and repairing cars and electronics. His love for the outdoors was evident in his family hiking trips and scuba diving trips, having grown up in Florida. Above all, spending time with his family and exploring mountains with his grandchildren brought him immense joy.
He practiced his faith following Hebraically biblical traditions, which deeply influenced his life and actions.
Ken leaves behind his wife, Cheryl, his children, Rachel and John Payne, and his cherished grandchildren, Asher, Ben, Charlee, Reyna, Tobiah, Levi, Solomon, Esther, and Hannah. His family legacy extends through the generations, each carrying a piece of his spirit and teachings. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lourdes Archuleta, his father, Earl Payne, and his mother-in-law, Won Lee Turner.
