Laura Sue Vonier, 85, joined the roll call of the Saints on Thursday, February 27, 2025 after a battle with Parkinsons Disease. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Laura Sue was born May 30, 1939 in Barton County, Missouri to Paul and Essie (Webb) Tucker. She was united in marriage to Jerry Vonier in February, 1958; he, their infant son, Paul Andrew, her parents, her step-mother Lois, and a beloved aunt and uncle, Edna Webb and Harry Webb preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Renee Newey, Paula (Troy) Schwarzenberger; grandchildren, Edna Vonier, Lauren Newey, Harrison (Michelle) Newey, and Grace (Ryan) Kight; her sister, Mary Christine Stansberry; brothers, Kenneth Tucker and Keith Tucker; sister in law, Velma Moffett; and sister-from-another-mother, VIrginia Kerth. In addition, many nieces, nephews, and cousins mourn the loss.
In 2000, she retired from The First National Bank of Golden City and convinced Jerry it was finally time to move to Colorado after trying since 1957 to get him to do so. She enjoyed retirement in Canon City, Colorado surrounded by her grandchildren, gardening, and camping--reading while Jerry fished. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses and aides at Skyline Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving care during her final months. Proverbs 31:10 "She is worth far more than rubies." A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM Friday, March 28, 2025 at Holt Family Funeral Home: 806 Macon Avenue, Cañon City, CO 81212. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Michael J.
